A refreshing new twist on an old idea…
“Shipped First Class” is a multi-fandom zine, featuring romantic art and fan fiction of the sci-fi, fantasy, and paranormal/horror genres.
Submission requirements for stories:
We are seeking maturely-written romantic pieces of varying lengths, ranging from PG-13 to a tasteful NC-17 in rating. Any type of story goes—comedy, action, mystery, you name it. Any het pairing within a fandom will be considered, as long as the story shows the furthering of a meaningful relationship. Stories should be new and original, previously unpublished in any zine or on any website.
Items we won’t accept:
-rapefic
-slash
-incest
-blatant pornography
-bodice rippers
Each submission will be considered on an individual basis. The editorial staff’s decisions are final. Please send your inquiries and submissions to Aquarius at solos_slave@somerescue.com.
Your story should be sent as a Word document or its Open Office equivalent (file will end in ".doc" when you save it), attached to your email, and be publication-ready. This means that your material should demonstrate a decent command of the English language in terms of grammar, structure, and mechanics, and that you’ve already put it through some sort of editorial process on those issues, as well as those of plot, setting, characterization, and other fundamentals of storytelling with a beta reader. Remember, you’re offering your story for public consumption, so you want to do your best and make a good impression!
Please also make sure to include your name, the story’s title, and your email address on the document itself, in case it becomes separated from your email. If we accept your story, we’ll want to know how to find you!
If your story is accepted, we ask that you refrain from publishing it in any other zine or archiving it at any website until a year from the publication date has passed.
The deadline for story submissions has been extended until February 28, 2008!
Submission requirements for artwork:
We are also looking for original artwork and artists who are willing to illustrate the stories. Please send inquiries, pictures of your favorite pairing, and a sample of your work if you’re volunteering to illustrate stories to Laura Quiles at manycomics@aol.com. If you need to send your submissions by snail mail, you can send them to Laura at 130 Newman Street, Metuchen, NJ 08840. Note: we will not be accepting photo manipulations for submission.
If your artwork is accepted, we ask that you refrain from publishing it elsewhere or archiving it on the web until a year from the publication date has passed.
Art submissions are due by March 15, 2008.
All email correspondence should have “SHIPPED FIRST CLASS” written in the subject line to avoid our spam filters.
All snail mail story submissions and inquiries should be sent with a self-addressed stamped envelope to Skye Rutherford at the address you got these guidelines from.
