| What is a fanzine/where can I find fanzines?
A fanzine is an amateur or fan-produced magazine containing stories and art written by fans about a particular subject. Fanzine contributors are not paid for their work, except by a free copy of the fanzine and fanzine publishers should only charge enough for an issue to make back their printing and postage costs. Fanzines that contain fanfiction about copyrighted works such as movies, TV shows, or books should have prominent disclaimers stating that they are not attempting to infringe on the copyright. Fans have been writing and publishing Star Wars fanzines since 1977 when Star Wars was first released. Many of the stories on this site were written for fanzines in the 80s and reflect early fan theories on what would happen in the later movies. Fanzines not only print new stories like the ones archived on this site, but also art, poetry, filksongs, and cartoons. Most stories are illustrated by fan artists, and some zines have color artwork on the front and back covers. For a listing of currently available Star Wars fanzines, see Fanzine Information. Where can I find more Han stories/Han and Leia Stories/Luke Stories/Star Wars stories? Check out the other fanfiction sites on our Link List, the fanzines for sale on the Fanzines Page, or use an internet search engine like Google or Yahoo. Why do you sometimes post more non-Han stories than Han stories? All non-Han stories are emailed to us by the author as text or HTML files and are ready to post immediately, or were previously posted to another web site which is allowing us to index them. Does anyone make money off this web site? Are you kidding? This site actually *costs* Aquarius money out of her meager paycheck. This web site does not charge fees, does not sell advertising, does not buy advertising, does not pay any authors or employees, and does not collect personal information or email addresses. We don't even take donations. We do it for a hobby, because it's fun. What is the criteria for submitting a story to this site? The story must have been previously published in a print Star Wars fanzine that is out of print or has been available for sale more than one year. The story can be indexed or archived on other web sites as long as it has appeared in a print fanzine. If you have a story that fits that criteria, please email the Site Administrator with the story title, the title of the fanzine it was published in, the year it was originally published, any awards or reprints, and a brief (1-2 sentence) description of the story. The Site Administrator will let you know if we can accept the story and how to send the text or html file. We're sorry, but this site does not archive any stories that were not previously published in a print fanzine. Why does it take so long sometimes for new stories to be posted? Because we archive previously published fanzine material, few of these stories come to us in text files ready to post to the site. First we have to get the permission from the author who may or may not be online, then someone has to scan the story in, then it has to be proofread (since the printing on some of the older zines is faded, this is often a long and painful process), and only then can it be posted. Due to the increeasing rarity of fanzines in circulation, sometimes it's just a good long time before we get any new material. We cannot update with what we do not have. Sometiems we're stalled by equipment malfunctions. Sometimes our real lives just suck and don't allow us time for our labors of love. Where can I find more print Star Wars fanzines to buy or submit my work to? There's a recently updated list on our Fanzines page. How can I get my fanzine listed on your Fanzine Information Page? Email the Site Administrator with your fanzine information and let her know if you also want your fanzine announced on our Yahoo Group. The more information you list about your fanzine (titles, authors, and descriptions of stories, type of artwork, total number of pages, what characters or movies it is focussed on, price, contact information) the more likely people will be to ask you about it. If your fanzine contains adult material, please let us know so we can put an age warning on the listing. Can I link to this site from my web site? Yes, but please link to the main page at http://www.somerescue.com.. Permission from the individual authors must be obtained before linking to any of the text files or individual pages. Permission to link to one story or one author's stories does not imply blanket permission to link to all stories on this site. Permission must be obtained from each author individually. Please use these banners to link to http://www/somerescue.com. (Banners are under construction and coming soon) Why do I have to go through This Is Some Rescue to get access to the Corellian Embassy now? Because the original creators, Carolyn Golledge and Martha Wilson, have retired from running the Embassy. It has been since adopted by Aquarius, owner and creator of This Is Some Rescue. Financially it made more sense to migrate everything over to the same piece of internet real estate Aquarius was already paying for, plus it's easier for your friendly neighborhood webmiss if everything is all in one place. If you have other questions, please contact the Site Administrator. |
